parts of West Bengal have been devastated by the super cyclone Amphan which hit the coasts of India on the 20th of May 2020 – one of the most severe storms to hit the Eastern coast of India in the past several decades. The Sundarbans mangrove forest which is an ecological marvel, as well as its adjoining villages and towns in South Bengal, and other areas are in ruins due to Amphan. Lives have been lost, properties destroyed, livelihoods have been snatched away and the ecology of the region lies in tatters. This is compounded by the fact that we are living in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic which makes relief and rehabilitation efforts even more arduous.
We are aware that several people and organisations have rushed forward to try and assist in whatever way possible to help and provide relief to the people, ecology and economy of the region.
